The first Honorary Degree was awarded in 1927 to one of New Mexico State University's most distinguished Alumni, Fabian Garcia. In 1894 Fabian graduated in the first class of NMSU, then known as New Mexico College of Agriculture. He was a horticulturist who forever changed the economy and landscape of the southwest with his work in the field of chile and was appropriately awarded a Doctor of Agriculture. His pioneering spirit and commitment to education are indicative of the more than one hundred recipients of this distinguished honor. |
