Guadalupe Dominguez-Flores, known across campus as Lupe, is now in her 32nd year as an employee of New Mexico State University and her 29th year as a supporter of various university programs through the employee payroll deduction program.
“It is important to contribute something,” Lupe says, “and even a small amount adds up over time.” “I want to help the students,” she continues. “After all, it is because of them that we have our jobs.”
Her gifts have supported scholarships for returning women students, the classified employees’ children’s scholarship fund, Chicano and now American Indian programs.
Lupe began her NMSU career as a bilingual secretary in the College of Education. She has also worked in the colleges of agricultural consumer and environmental sciences, engineering, and arts and sciences well as employee benefits, the police department, and university advancement. For three years she was in the “floater” pool, meaning she took temporary assignments across campus. She is currently the assistant to the Director of Presidential Events, a position she has had since 2005.
She might be eligible for retirement but that word doesn’t have a place in her life. She has an active volunteer life as well. She and her husband Daniel were named Family of the Year by the Knights of Columbus Council 1226. They are also active in the Corporation of Our Lady of Guadalupe and will serve as mayordomos for the fiesta in December 2009.
Lupe was recipient of the Ralph B. Crouch Memorial Award in 2007. This award is given in recognition of outstanding contribution to the NMSU community. |
