Gifts-in-kind, also known as non-cash gifts, are donations made to NMSU in some form other than money. Gifts-in-kind include items such as land, homes, automobiles, horses, equipment, artwork, books, etc. In compliance with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations, gifts received with an appraisal, equal to, or greater than $5,000, an IRS tax form (8283) will be signed and provided to the donor establishing the date that the gift was received by NMSU and a description of the gift. Stocks, mutual funds, bonds and other securities given to the university may provide a considerable savings in capital gains taxes for the donor. To make a gift of stock, have your broker transfer the shares to Merrill Lynch, Albuquerque, DTC #5198, for credit to the New Mexico State University Foundation, account number 433-07126.
